Maxwell, Remember that the 128K full speed cache will be faster than 512K 1/2 speed cache. This Celeron will easily defeat all but the fastest Pentium IIs (400 Mhz up) And if the jumper trick works on it so it will run at 100 Mhz FSB it will give the faster ones a good run.
However cost is paramount and it will be more costly than AMD offerings for the low end.
Fast full speed cache is the only way to go for speed even if it costs die area. Going 1/3rd speed with dense CMOS will save space but the processor would be obsolete before being made.
