Bill, first this from you: "This Celeron will easily defeat all but the fastest
Pentium IIs (400
Mhz up)"

Now this: "Gene, Only 32K L1 cache, not 128K, no comparisons to the P-II,
This looks good for AMD as it is only 25% better than the early
Celeron which was a dismal failure."

Make up your mind. Is it better than most Pentium II's, or barely better than the old Celerons? Actually, to me, the purpose of the two Celerons introduced today is to jack up the performance of the Celeron family. The graph Gene brought in says it all...they have.

The new Celerons are standing tall compared to the old ones. At $139 and $179 in quantity (recall, don't quote me) they look like a very good buy to me. Also, Intel quality, reliability and brand name go a long way.

Bill, Re: This looks good for AMD as it is only 25% better than the early Celeron

The last K6-2 300 review Tom Patsy did also was only 25% better
than Celeron 300.

However, this is not a fair comparison. I would wait for a
'controlled' review.

I think the biggest advantage AMD has over the new Celeron is that the new products are called Celeron. Too much baggage from the first offerings, and too much confusion in the market.
I also think it makes it easier to position K6-2 against PII.
