Hey Fred! Your Satellite guys are Bounty Hunters.................

DSS, DiSH In Bounty-Hunting Conflict
- -August 24, 1998

By Greg Tarr

Just days after word broke that EchoStar is running a Direct-To-Home (DTH) Satellite Bounty program that pays dealers $100 for a customer who converts from another DTH service to the DiSH Network, DirecTv announced its own "EchoStar Switch" program that doubles the dealer fee to $200 for a conversion from DiSH to DSS.

A spokesman for DirecTv acknowledged the EchoStar Switch offer was issued in reaction to the DiSH Bounty and is not offered for other DTH systems.

"We want to send a message to Charlie Ergen and the people at EchoStar that we are not going to sit back and let them try to take our customers," said DirecTv spokesman Jeff Torkelson. "We are willing to discontinue it as soon as EchoStar puts an end to its Bounty program."

A spokesman for EchoStar refused to comment on DirecTv's offer.
