Sorry- the article does say the Cobra will be announced today and that is the only news I saw from IBM so I assumed that was it. Whether IBM is going to announce Savage being in their machines remains to be seen. However, we were promised OEM design wins in the conference call over a month ago. Shouldn't these have been announced by now?

I visited a few websites of add-in board manufacturers in Taiwan and Hong Kong, and it appears that S3's marketing efforts are at full speed, with many already listing Savage3D-based models (Hightech, MSI, A-Trend, to name a few). However, it will probably take a while for the Savage3D chip to be cost-effective for these customers.

There appears to be major competition in the "bottom end" AGP card segment, with S3 (GX2/Trio3D), Trident, SiS and ATI (Rage IIC) all seriously competing, with Intel in the segment just above that. In terms of revenue, I think S3 has recovered some of the AGP design market share while having to deal with a rapidly declining PCI segment which they have dominated. Of particular note are the apparent efforts from ATI to penetrate the non-captive, high-volume, low-end graphics card business (in direct competition with S3), which is new market for them.
