re: I don't see how DVD can win DVD is in the PC99 spec in spec of CD-ROMs. PC DVD add-on cards are about 1/2 price of DVD player. I see the reverse - I can't see how DVD can lose. patrick

What "video on demand" technologies? We have been hearing about this ad nauseum but I don't see it. In fact, I've read many an article about how complicated it is and that they can't seem to make it work. Pay per view is hardly video on demand. It's still not on the viewer's schedule. I have DVD in my new computer and I am the proud owner of three DVD titles. I've had VHS for many years and have NEVER bought a tape (excepting blank ones). There is simply no comparison when it comes to video/audio quality and the ancillary enhancements like jumping ahead. I am not a typical consumer, whatever that is, but I would be astounded if people do not migrate from tape to disc. There is also this strange 3D looking aspect to DVD titles. I am aware of the usual caveats: the best format doesn't always win, and something else may make DVD obsolete before it reaches critical mass. But I love it. Beachbumm P.S. The opening space scene from CONTACT is awesome on the DVD.
