I think there are plenty of carrier equipment companies that would love to have Ciena's technology besides CSCO. Alcatel, NT are behind in the DWDM race and a CIEN acquisition would fill the technology gap and would bring instant high profile in the US market. Anyway, before TLAB offered for CIEN, I don't think many people had thought of a company like TLAB would make a play for CIEN. While I'm certainly not aware that there are other companies, nor would I discount the possibility that if CIEN put the "for sale" sign out, they would be able to set up a bloody bidding war that TLAB could not hope to win.
