I2-- good point about scams using overnight services as opposed to the postal service. However this is a major brokerage house--not that it necessarily means that they are beyond reproach--though hopefully they would be less prone to an outright scam.

It is a US bank that is involved in the product--so FDIC insurance is possible.

I think that Vince has got this pretty much nailed in terms of the structure of the deal--the only questions for me are whether this would be a good way to invest in Japan, or whether there is a better way--hoping that Iqbal can help me with this--and whether I am better off structuring something like this myself and saving on the fees and commissions.
