Any thoughts on the Aureal/Diamond announcements? October shipment of Vortex2/A3D 2.0 -based Monster MX300. They claim to do 16 hardware accelerated 3D streams compared to SB Live's 8 hardware/8 software. Also has (probably software) Dolby Digital support. It's going for 100 bucks.

My take: looks like this card is aimed solely at gamers. How important is 16 (max) streams of 3D audio anyway? Can someone please enlighten me?

Also, Creative is going to offer Dolby Digital support too (on software at least, although there is also a hardware solution coming along) so no worries there.

Looking at the specs, SB Live seems a better thought-out product which will appeal to a broader audience. The whole package is just so much more value. If SB Live could be upgraded to play 16 hardware 3D streams then the MX300 will have no selling point at all besides price (even then I suspect Creative will drop their price with a Value version just as Diamond comes out with the MX300).
