Savoirman the 16 streams are just about the biggest thing to gamers. Imagine shooting a gun 6 times at 4 monsters... the live with only 8 streams can do of the 6 shots all of them in 3d BUT the 4 monsters it can only do 2 so the other 2 will drop OFF from 3d and go to a panning mode(not EAX). The A3d 2.0 can do 16 so it can handle the above with 6 3d streams for more... BIG SELLING POINT. Now I have heard people try games (unreal) that have 16 streams on the live and the live DIDN'T drop a 3d stream from what you can hear. So my guess is the 8 3d streams will be all you will ever REALLY need as we can't locate more than 5-6 things at a time in the real world anyway and a simple non 3d panning mode will do just fine for anything over 8. But from a gamers POV the A3D 2.0 cards looks much much better because of the 16 streams and the lower price. CREAF if it would like to hold its top spot needs not just do 16 but up aureal with say 17 or 18. Keep in mind many gamers think CREAF is a bad company because its cards cost more. So CREAF needs to work harder than Aureal to make this group of morons happy ; ). I would also add that this group is in a techno middle ground with the knowledge of computers they have (knowing some facts mixed with a lot of BS). Many thought till the Live came out that the 4 speaker audio was a CREAF trick or not as good as A3Ds 2 speaker setup... The thinking I guess was CREAF can't do 3d with 2 speakers it needs 4 and as such isn't as good... STUPID is what I call that. Also CREAF needs a month or so from now to make a gamers only live card. And at ALL costs NEEDS to upgrade the live card out now to 17/18+ 3d streams and have AC3/Dolby Digital. My guess is the Live drivers were not ready at the launch of the live and the lack of AC3 is part of what was not ready... also I guess for some reason CREAF is only doing 8 streams and the live can do more. I mean if the Lives 10k1 chip is so powerful it should smoke the vortex2s 16 streams. But this maybe a trick to hold back the live card till the V2 cards are almost out and have a 20 steam upgrade for the live... Who knows. I do know CREAF at the min. can do 16 3d streams by taking the 8 48kHz(CD quality) and making a hack to cut it down to 24kHz(radio quality) and 16 streams (still VERY GOOD, a3d only does radio quality so this is not a bad thing). Having the same CPU time on paper anyway. Again gamers will see this as a trick though and CREAF needs to add a few streams so it looks better... PR thing. Adam-
