Peter:

Thomas Jefferson had it right when he said trust in the people... Some of the framers of our Constitution wanted some elite group to select the people holding public office... I'm glad that Jefferson prevailed... Concentrating the power over your life and my life in the hands of a few people that that have absolute power is dangerous under any scenario... Most people want a better life for themselves and their children... If unemcumbered by dictatorial restrictions, they'll stumble along and learn from their experiences... The U.S. has been stumbling along for over 200 years... While not perfect, the people, as a whole, are a lot smarter than any all knowing person... Diversity of ideas is the key... A strongman is like a bandaid... The root of the problem lies in restricting those ideas that run counter to the all knowing strongman... So, I say, let them stumble forward with the help of some people with integrity... Who knows, they may have their own Teddy Roosevelt...
