Hi Jack, I'd sensed some of the excitement over on the PTSC board, but was in over my head as far as the information goes. I'd tried to read in some computer magazines about such things, but was only finding discussion about whether Java could find a real home when Wintel was acting in such a segregationalist manner.

As we've seen in the past, some interesting hardware ideas have failed because they weren't supporting/mirroring Wintel. If the software writers aren't going to get paid to write for the cpu design, it's a gonner. This time, with Java, etc, it seems that there's willingness to write software, but the hardware (ie wintel) will run the software only as well as it runs the stuff that's already designed for it.

This led me to think that there was a need for a newer cpu that could be optimized for Java and therefore still able to run most wintel stuff. However, being optimized, it has the chance to really be a major step forward with the advanced language abilities of Java.

I don't remember how I stumbled upon PTSC, but it was interesting. It was just so small that it missed any radar screens of mine. I don't know how to evaluate it in a rational, fundamental way. It's more like a mini-biotech at this point than anything else to which I can compare it. Definitely "top of the pyramid" stuff, not foundation material.

I certainly have a heightened interest in it now that you've explained more about it than I've been able to find in the pc magazines!! Thanks.

Best regards, Tom
