SAN JOSE, Calif., Aug. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Thomson-CSF Enterprise Networks, Inc., a leader in multimedia ATM networking for the enterprise, announced today that it has signed an OEM agreement with InnovaCom, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: MPEG). Under the agreement, InnovaCom will purchase Thomson's 5000 series multimedia ATM switches for use in InnovaCom's TransPEGTM MPEG Audio Video Network (MAVNetTM) Solutions. In addition, the two companies will share resources to support the deployment of their integrated technologies into rapidly expanding video based markets and organizations interested in deploying advanced multimedia applications to improve organizational communications, collaboration and productivity.

With the touch of a finger, MAVNet digital video routing technology allows connection of nearly any video source to any destination via it's SoftPatchTM, virtual patch panel. The TransPEG encoder converts a video stream to an MPEG- 2 compliant stream to allow for maximum flexibility and integration with other types of data in one communications system. At their destination, the MPEG-2 stream is converted back to analog video via a complementary TransPEG decoder.

MAVNet uses Thomson's exclusive VideoXpress ATM networking technology to ensure that the highest quality video is delivered, even under heavily loaded network conditions. Also, Thomson's IP Multicast features allows single or multiple video streams to be multicast to virtually any number of locations and users simultaneously, providing up to 600 discrete channels.

"Thomson is an excellent choice for InnovaCom and we are excited about the benefits the partnership will mean for our customers," says Frank Alioto, InnovaCom's President. "Thomson is specifically focused on providing the most advanced multimedia backbone and workgroup networking solutions for today's demanding multimedia and video applications while delivering a highly scalable infrastructure to easily meet future networking requirements. Thomson's products seamlessly integrate with ours to provide video distribution networks unmatched in quality and value."

"Thomson seeks out and develops strategic partnerships with companies like InnovaCom that have strong technology, marketing and management abilities," remarks Dave Weisman, Thomson's Vice-President of Sales and Marketing. "InnovaCom and their TransPEG solutions are uniquely positioned to provide customers that want to leverage video based applications requiring the superior multimedia handling capabilities inherent in our unique ATM switch architecture."

A complete MAVNet video distribution system including MPEG-2 encoder, decoder, ATM switch and software has a list price of less than $50,000.

Thomson and InnovaCom products will be on display at the upcoming IBC show in Amsterdam as well as the Networld+Interop'98 show in Atlanta.
