ELECTRONIC BUYERS NEWS via NewsEdge
Corporation : TranSwitch Corp., a fabless design house
in Shelton, Conn., is shipping a line of
overhead-termination devices for fiber-optic networks.
The 3.3-V CMOS chips can be used in various
SONET/SDH-based applications, such as cross-connect
systems, terminal or add/drop multiplexers, and
high-speed data communication products.

The PHAST-1 devices have a maximum power
dissipation of 320 mW and are rated for operation at
-40degreesC to +85degreesC. Designed for use in OC-1
networks, which run at 51.84 Mbits/s, the devices meet
the latest Bellcore specifications. The chips, housed in
144-pin packages, cost $83 each.

Later this year, TranSwitch is planning to introduce a
similar device- the PHAST-12-for use in 622-Mbit/s
OC-12 networks.
