I will have to defer on some of your questions. Without my books, I can't answer off the top of my head. I knew my "there is no such thing as a boring network magazine" comment would eventually get me in trouble. <g>

My point regarding Ethernet not being a channel technology can be summed up this way. Disk drives do NOT have ethernet interfaces. They have SCSI or Fibre Channel interfaces. Since Fibre Channel can carry either channel or network protocols, it can attach to both network (Ethernet) and/or storage (SCSI/Fibre Channel) devices. (A bridge is still required to reach the Ethernet side.) That gives FC the edge over GE in the SAN, since it can directly attach to storage.
