If they are bought by a portal, wouldn't that limit their audiance? or in other words, would it not be in someone elses better interest (assuming somethins did happen)to acquire them, and make contracts with all portals, e-brokers, billers banks et al instead of limiting their field? Just thinking out loud.

I agree with the second statement - as to the first, I very much doubt it. Portals would not want to get into this kind of heavy, transactional business, certainly not at this stage of their evolution. Their emphasis is on acquiring companies that help them to *aggregate* commerce, rather than on building (versus buying) the technology that underlies (certain kinds of) transactions.
