Patrick: The questions you raise about Adaptec are appropriate, I believe, given the plunge and settling in of the stock price, the downsizing, the departures of senior officers and the apparent drift at the top right now. Long investors like me look at all this with great dismay. The situation is swampy, bringing out all the dark thoughts and creatures most comfortable in that environment. If the board had named an unknown as CEO placeholder, I would have been less comfortable than I am. But do a founder (Boucher) and a very successful former CEO (Adler) return to preside over the death of a company to which they contributed so much? Possibly, but that doesn't seem likely to me. Perhaps my rosy glasses distort my view, but I think the first order of business of Adler and Boucher and all the other dedicated senior management at Adaptec is to get the company back on track. And that will take time and maybe wrenching organizational changes causing some unhappiness among employees rocked by uncertainty. After all, Adaptec was flying high until late last year. How would it be to work in a place that has been torn asunder and fallen like a rock? Not fun. Those most affected will find ways to complain, anonymously of course, on this great internet forum, spewing out their frustrations for all the disgruntled investor rats (I hope I'm not among that family of rodentia) to feed upon. And so we get the so-called (perhaps real) Adaptec insiders providing grist for all the cheering and hungry vermin. On the Yahoo thread, I think you can take on multiple names and personalities, each one goading or cheering its other self--that probably doesn't happen much, if at all, but the rules there are as firm of those in anarchy, without moderator or any censure. That is unfortunate for those who post there in hopes of a useful dialog. That is the internet in its most free form (both a strength and a weakness)and I don't want that to disappear. But I wade carefully through that swamp of information, looking for the rarest of insects. Sorry for all this. But thanks for the opportunity to rant. Starowl
