Yeah, these guys are going to have to mark these things down and start announcing it soon. I felt for those Russians trying to get their money out of their banks. I guess they are just not quite ready for a free market system. I hope it doesn't send them too far in the other direction. WS

The Bloomberg lists Bank of New York (BK) as a holder of 161MM common stocks (24%) of LUKoil (LKOH$), a Russian company which went from $24 to $4 (last trade $3.75) this year. I wonder at what price this investment is written in the bank's books. BK? -- an appropriate short for this thread!! ;0}

Called to put my money, that's in 401k into money market, and was told it'll take over 1 month for them to sell... ohhh..not good. cheers

Arik--how much has BK invested in this company even assuming that they acquired the 24% close to the highs?? Then assuming that BK did not liquidate any of the holdings during the decline we'd have a sense of the the maximum dollar exposure. I suspect it is not that great -- but I could not find info on the stock in terms of its outstanding shares
