T.R. What I can't understand is how can country that has such a rich contribution to the arts and for that matter science, be so backward still? I guess it's the affects of repression that still bother the country. They have gotten the freedom, but will not pay for it, since they do not trust the government because of the past.

TR......Vodka is not the only problem......a news report the other night said that nearly 40% of the yachts on the French Rivera were now owned by wealthy Russians....and that the money had been TAKEN away instead of being put into businesses..and infrastructure.....implying whole sale looting of foreign loans...ect ..Tim

It is helpful to learn from the extremes sometimes. Russia shows what happens if you cut taxes so far that government cannot function. (I know, technically they didn't cut taxes, they just never got organized enough to collect them). Still when I hear from the Newt and Lott camps that we need to cut taxes until the bureaucracy crumbles, I always wonder who or what will jump up to fill the power vacuum before the government is right-sized.

TP (Who pays more taxes than a Russian village but wouldn't trade places with them).
