Barb, I just got off the phone with Jimmy Brikes of Datek and he said "Datek absolutely allows opening two accounts." He is familiar with boxing in a stock. According, to Jimmy one needs to open two accounts. Datek does not allow boxing out one account but does allow boxing across accounts. Out of the conversation, I received the impression that it was quite common at Datek.

I not understand the implications of a guaranteed account. I have not heard this term before.

Hi Barb et. al.,

Try Discover Direct Brokerage(Dean Witter). I box all the time with the same account number, while getting GREAT service on the borrow... I have never been denied a borrow yet. Don't know how they do it. They automatically give you a short account, a cash account, and a margin account all under the same number and statements.
