Jim,

Having touched the 8000 level on a theoretical basis there is a strong chance of a nice rally from here. At 75 and change I believe Intel has put in at least a short term bottom. Should start a nice bounce now. AMD as well...

Sure it's not a "dead cat bounce?" Right now, the buying opportunity exists for any high-tech stock, including Intel, AMD, Rambus, etc. But the fear could be that this is the straw that breaks the camel's back. First Asia, then semiconductors, now Russia.

As I heard before, a lot of people get burned not by the initial drop, but by the subsequent drop. Have we already seen the subsequent drop, and can we say that the worst of this latest downturn is over?

Jim,

Have to admitt I picked up a few long positions today, probably a serious error. If we don't see a STRONG bounce Monday or Tuesday of next week, I think we can look for a DOW bear market.

I think you are right that Intel will out-perform if the market tanks, solid companies with good balance sheets and real profits will hold up, the stocks that have high PE's based on imagined future earnings will take the worst hit.

John

I'm surprised Paul F. is still here Intel bashing. Never could figure out how some folks can come to HATE a stock and company so much. Seems like a waste of time when there are so many interesting and positive ways he could be using all that energy.

I am not much of a TA, but I think you are right. We needed a strong selloff to satisfy the many that follow TA rigorously. I think we got it this week. It is amazing how many stocks are trading at their 52 week lows. I used up all remaining cash buying various stocks this week so from here on buying opportunities won't mean much to me.
