Great post, jg! Just having been living in so many countries I've 'assimilated' little pieces of every culture into my makeup. Sometimes it's hard to separate them. Having lived between 1-12 years in Switzerland, Germany, England, Israel, I've seen the difference (especially between Switzerland and Israel) a country's fight for normalcy, that the other country takes for granted, does to the people of the country. The ease in which a country like Switzerland can go on with their daily chores of innovating, industrializing, creating without the day to day worries of security, terrorism, army reserves, and war was a major culture shock for me. So when I feel our comfortable world in this country might be shattered, I remember how it was and how I don't want it to ever be again.
