No I dont love Dell, I dont love any stock. But in any product line, expensive or no, SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT will save you money. That is what Dell implemented, with the use of software by a company called I2, that enabled them to manage their supply chain effectively across the line and with logistics mgmt increased their gross margins because of it. These same economies of scale are now being realized at some of the semis and high end computer vendors (Sun is looking at I2 as I understand it, no confirmation though).

I will admit that the commodity plays and CPG realize immediate benefits where the high end companies such as Applied Materials need to wait a year or so to see the hit to the bottom line.

Either way, commodity or no, CISCO HAS NOT EVEN STARTED.

If you want to debate me about supply chain management you better read up IDIOT. BTW I was an architect of the Dell supply chain.
