Viagra Expected On Irish Shelves Before End Of Year
August 27

By Ronan Hayes

The wonder drug broke sales records within days of being launched onto theAmerican market last April. The European Union medicines advisory committee gave support to a draft decision to clear the drug for sale within the 15 member States of the EU. The proposal must now go forward for final approval by the EuropeanCommission and is expected to be dealt with on 15th, September.

It will require further approval by the Irish Government but obstacles to the licence are not anticipated. The drug in tablet form is manufactured by a Cork based company, Pfizer who have advised consumers not to expect the product on pharmacy shelves immediately.

The Department of Health have yet to decide whether the drug, available on prescription only, can be obtained on the medical card or not. While the general belief is that impotence is caused by stress and psychological anxiety, two of the most common causes are in fact high blood pressure and diabetes.

A study undertaken by Mori and sponsored by Pfizer, displayed attitudes of men towards impotence which is medically named ED, erectile dysfunction. The men who took part in the study were all over 40 years of age and from countries like Germany, France, Mexico, Argentina, China, Morocco, Norway, South Korea, Sweden and Turkey.

One in five of the men admitted to having experienced impotence at sometime in their life. It is well accepted that men generally do not seek help for the condition but 66% of those surveyed agreed that talking about the problem would help.
