Actually it is quite a bit less than these numbers would have you believe. Remember that market makers buy and sell as intermediaries between the selling investor and the buying investor. They also buy and sell among themselves. So at a minimum the volume is overstated by 50% on the NASDAQ.>>

Thanks for the clarification. Therefore, I assume the 5.6% would really be 2.8%. When comparing the volume on a day-to-day, week-to-week, etc. basis, doesn't the overstated 50% tend to wash-out? For example, if one day Dell trades 20 million shares, and the next day 40 million shares, can't one say that the volume increased by 100%? Hope my example makes sense.
