Loki: Thanks. My sources are not web sites. I know how to spell Old King Kohl, but Late at night I sometimes succumb to the sheer number of typos I make on this sticky COMPAQ keyboard. (Anybody knows how to cure sticky keys?) Well, its early Monday morning in Europe as I write: as I suspected, the HK govt stopped intervening and their market tanked about 7%. But this should be healthy in the long term. Without govt distortion the HK market should rebound this week. Japan and Korea are up and other Asians are down, moderately. The UK is closed today. So far, Germany is down moderately, although many of its leading shares are up. Other bourses have not yet opened. Sentiment is ruffled, apprehensive about Wall Street this afternoon, but the underlying feeling is that sometime soon, if not today, the markets will rally. Someone just pointed out that the Russian economy is smaller than Sainsburys (a UK retail grocery chain). The positive fundamentals are that Europe is growing with low inflation as is the USA (and the USA 3Q will be better than the 2Q). The consensus for lower interest in the UK and the USA is beginning to grow. Further hints of this may emerge from Greenspan (tomorrow?). The structural problems of Asia (and Russia) are being addressed. Asia will turnaroud eventually. The bearish fundamentals are that Latin America may come under pressure and it represents 14% of the USA's exports. Russian specialists are saying this morning that the communist oppositon to Yeltsin and the PM is a negotiating ploy. They want as much representation and influence as possible. They also want to be on Clinton's visit list. Ultimately, if the communists were to refuse to confirm the PM they might be seen as the cause of more extreme economic and monetary problems and would lose power in any elections. In a worst case scenario, where there was major Russian unrest, (which I do not think will happen) it would not be communists who would replace the current regime but one of the more charismatic nationalist leaders. All my musings. I hope the US leads the world up later today. Victor
