>> What exactly is the PCI slot for ? besides a video card why would I might need a extra slot ?<<

AGP PCI and ISA are expansion slots. AGP is a specialized PCI expansion slot. ISA is the older version of expansion slot. It is slower than PCI and is being phased out.

Possible expansion slot uses ie things you can put in your PCI slots.

SCSI host adapter
Modem ( still mostly ISA )
NIC ( Network Interface Card )
Sound Card ( mostly ISA but moving toward PCI )
Video Card
Fast Track IDE RAID
Scanner Card

Consider the lack of an AGP slot on the ASUS P2L97 when comparing to the ABIT board. Also the ABIT BH6 uses the BX chipset whereas the ASUS P2L97 uses the LX chipset. The BX chipset supports slower processors as well as the faster 350 to 550? CPU's

Someone please correct me if I am wrong...I do not think NT 4 supports AGP...??

>As far as overclocking a chip - just to complicated for me and from what I have heard<

I use to have the same opinion until I read some of the stuff
Dirk posted and realized it was extremely simple, depending upon
the motherboard. As long as one uses high quality ram that supports
the higher bus settings and keeps the computer cool, you will be fine.

The LX boards are tailored to 66 mhz bus speed.
The BX boards are tailored to 100 mhz bus speed.
The Abit bh6 allows you to change the bus setting just within
the bios software. Very simple.

Some overclockers are using the 132 bus setting but having stability
problems. So Abit made the 124 bus setting possible, and if you have
the AZZO ram, you can get tremendous speeds of 500 mhz plus with concrete stability by overclocking a 350/400/450 mhz chip.

But as you said, for what you are doing, those speeds are not
necessary. Did you know that Intel has discontinued the PII 300?
Some sites I've called said they are out of them and will not get
any more in.
