According to today's Wall Street Journal, 59% of all shares outstanding are held by individuals, either directly or through mutual funds. Since so much of that is through mutual funds, the little guys *are* the big guys in some sense. If the little guys move their money to Treasuries, then the big guys have to sell stock to cover redemptions, so the other little guys get creamed, and move their money to Treasuries, and down we all go together....
