Never be definitive :-) Its simply not supported in the initial release.

Why? Time to market. Whats big -> IP and IPX so these are done first.

Is it an issue? - Not really Apple and DECnet Phase IV are much smaller markets. In the overall picture the competition (such as RapidCity/BAY) only supports IP.

When other protocols get ported? As required - based on market demand.

This choice was made because Appletalk and DECnet Phase IV are typically low bandwidth users that can be supported by the layer 2 switching on the same routers. Few new applications and almost no multimedia apps are being developed on these protocols. Even Apple itself now supports a full (and very robust) IP implementation.
