Paul, Re: ASPs for the low priced Pentium IIs are heading in that direction and Intel is merely placing themselves ahead of the curve.

Is the cost of Celeron 300A/333 lower than PII ? There is always
one thing that I want to ask which is the packaging of PII.

While Intel can move to .18 or later .13 process which would
reduce the cost for the silicon itself, the packaging of PII
won't benefit from this thus would carry a relatively large
fixed cost. What can be done in this area ?

Gary

Thanks for the detailed response. Another question about PRIA, if you don't mind. There is no useful info on PRIA thread. This is my basket case stock (bought on way down at $26).

I have read that INTC, in order to standardize all of its fabs, selects a single "vendor of choice" for each type of equipment.
Notwithstanding the 300mm postponements, do you have any insight into whether INTC is evaluating next generation automation equipment yet. I am obviously concerned that if Daifuku wins the next round, it will be a bad day for PRIA (ala AT&T and Ciena). With the yen situation, Japanese equipment must be very competitive in the US, although I don't know if this is true in other places such as Malaysia and Israel. I assume INTC evaluates vendors long and hard before deciding. Is there a tendency for INTC to favor domestic vendors over Japanese, everything being equal, to keep its secrets at home ?

Thanks very much.
