Dave:

The only thing that kept me from bleeding to death was my death grip on the crappy stocks that I have shorted, two of which were hit to the tune of over 30% down today. I will not cover those stocks, ever, because I believe that they will not survive, come bull or bear. The bear market is just putting them to death faster than expected.

THQI on the other hand is a stellar stock. But I nearly fainted last month when they announced a convertible placement. I short companies that do that kind of thing. The terms were never announced but any convertible is a blot on a good balance sheet. Floorless convertibles are death. THQ would have been better off not even announcing the fact until they deal was done. I'm sure the terms would have been alright, but many short sellers don't bother to read the terms once they see the word private placement and convertible on the same page.

But as for your comments about what a reasonable middle aged baby boomer would do; consider that they have never been through a bear market, let alone the fear of world financial market turmoil. The question is not what a reasonable person would do but rather what a fearful person would do. And the fear is palpable right now. I know, I've asked around the office.
