No, he's stating that the incarnation won't work if matter itself is inherently evil. In Gnostic theory God cannot have interaction with matter, and in Christian theology God in the form of incarnate Christ inhabits the world of matter. Gnosticism makes Christ inhabit a lower order than God in its complex hierarchy of aeons, sub-aeons, demiurges and all that other stuff that comprises Gnostic cosmology.
