Share buyback doesn't make as much sense as selling puts, particularly at a time when the volatility will tend to work toward high put premiums. That may translate into acquiring more shares of the stock price stays weak, but the cash from premiums would either put cash in the company coffers if the options aren't exercised or reduce the cost of acquiring shares if they are exercised.
