Beginners frown on Solaris normally. But as far as a real world implementation goes Solaris wins hands down for stability. You don't see a "Kernel of the day" with Solaris.

Who really uses the GUI when it comes down to hard core unix administration? CDE for solaris really blows imho. You should consider running Afterstep and Accelerated X for your GUI pleasure. If you really like the bells and whistles, get and compile enlightenment.
