Thomas,

With all due respect, I don't think you know what you're talking about.

The 1920's market boom was artificial and did not reflect the fundamental problems in the US economy until the fateful stock market crash in 1929.

The Great Depression was made worse by a conservative government that cut fiscal spending which put even more people out of work. This prolonged the bear market. Loose monetary policy didn't work because people hoarded money.

Today, supply and demand are far more in balance on the world economy than it was in the 1920's. The lack of demand overseas is being offset by strong demand in the US and Western Europe. I see no significant glut of goods.

The Asian financial crisis is now one year old. ONE YEAR OLD!!! Do you see any impacts yet? I don't see very many people out of work. Inflation 1%. Interest rates 5-6%. Unemployment 4.5%. There have been adjustments, but the US economy is still humming strong. If Japan and Korea can't sink the US economy, then how can Russia? If the US economy is slowing down, it's to take a momentary break, which it deserves.
