COGNICASE Announces Creation of an International Software Engineering Centre
MONTREAL--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 1, 1998--Mr. Ronald Brisebois, President and Chief Executive Officer of COGNICASE Inc. (NASDAQ:COGIF - news; TSE:COG. - news), today announced the creation of an International Software Engineering Centre (''Centre'') which will grow over the next five years to 2,000 employees specialized in information technology and multimedia. The Centre, which will lie in the heart of the Cite du Multimedia, represents an investment of Cdn$500 million in salaries, infrastructure, equipment and installations during the next 10 years.

The 2,000 employees of the Centre will focus on one of the four following areas:

Design and development of software solutions, components for the development and implementation of client/server applications, Web and multimedia applications. This expertise will be offered on a world-wide basis;
Engineering/re-engineering, programming, applications re- engineering and modernization;
Design and development of multimedia applications;
Design and development of multi-protocol telecommunications servers.
Mr. Brisebois noted that all of the 2,000 employees who will begin working at the Centre within the next five years will be professionals with IT training. Among them will be a variety of programmers/analysts with college and university degrees.

Mr. Brisebois acknowledged the contribution of the Quebec government and added that this support will be used for training. ''IT is evolving at such a pace that the only way to stay in the race is through continuous training.''

The Centre will be housed in a new nine-storey building to be built starting October on the corner of Duke and Wellington streets. Construction is expected to be completed in November 1999.

''Only COGNICASE employees with a direct link to the activities of the Centre will be located in the new building,'' said Mr. Brisebois. ''The Company's administrative personnel, consultants and the sales force will remain in a separate location outside the Cite du Multimedia. This will allow the new Centre to develop a corporate culture geared toward research, development, technological innovation and software production.''

''Our objective in establishing the Centre is the advancement of the Company's expertise in its core technologies,'' concluded Mr. Ronald Brisebois. ''The Centre will allow us to innovate and develop new products to maintain COGNICASE in the forefront of software solutions world-wide.''

COGNICASE Inc., has 1,500 employees and a revenue run rate of US$110 million. The company, founded in 1991, is an international provider of value-added software solutions and information technology (IT) consulting services. The Company's services encompass three core areas: Systems Integration and Business Solutions, IT Outsourcing and Software Licences. Nanda;

A heartfelt congratulations on what looks like a very good day!!

I'll give you credit. You have far more grit and toughness than I; to be able to re-evaluate your investment posture regarding some of the ravaged Y2K issues and profitably enter these stocks in a rocky market with impeccable timing is truly admirable.

Especially considering how down the sector has been..

As they say,what a difference a month can make!!!
