There is NO JOINT DEVELOPMENT, only process BEYOND 0.18um! It is called COPY EXACT, a technique widely used by Gary Barrett at Intel. It takes 6 months to bring up the new fab with the COPY EXACT. It is too bad that Intel has to develop everything. Collaboration is better than individual research. No one to partner with Intel because they are too greedy and exemplify "bad sports". To keep up they go out and COPY other people technology such as "branch prediction" from DEC, "polishing technology", "shallow trench isolation", "bump interconnect", and soon to be "copper interconnect" and "SOI".
