Melisaa and Michele,

Have either of you heard of the new IRP market--Infrastructure Resource Planning? It seems like SAP is moving towards using this in conjunction with their ERP systems to provide breadth in services. I keep hearing that IRP is the next big wave to hit when the technology is strong enough to support three-tier integration. I am assuming that 3-tier is desktop, server, network.

Perhaps PSFT is making a move towards this to stem the tide of the supposedly slowing ERP sector...

Any information or thoughts?

Regards,

G

Hi MM,
A Lehman Bros. report that was posted some time ago suggested that a buyback might be announced in the future. What do you think about tomorrow night? Apparently they have $750MM in cash.

Also ~OT~ is ITWO low enough to buy with both hands?

Regards
David

Melissa...

About Thursday's conference call.

IMO you are correct, there will be no earnings warning.

I was concerned about the way the news about the conference call got out (ie, analysts knowing on Friday, but not us ordinary investors) so I e-mailed PSFT investor relations.

Per IR's prompt and courteous reply: "there will be nothing material presented in this call" and that's why the news was not publicly disseminated.

An earnings warning (or MSFT <g>) = material. IMHO.

I remain concerned about the way PSFT handled this and am waiting for a further clarification from them. Will it be "old boy network, business-as-usual" into infinity and beyond, or will ethical companies strive to give everyone an even playing field?

Now, perhaps, we know more about why PSFT beat the crash on Monday and sailed on Tuesday. And also, (news out/sell), perhaps, why it went down today.

Tom

PS: David: ditto for a stock buyback. It would be "material," IMO.

I jumped in late in the day and made an initial investment in PSFT. I've owned SAP for quite a while but think there's room for more than one in the space. I think the biggest factor depressing PFST price has been general loathing of smaller cap stocks. Secondarily there is the fear that many of their sales are year 2K related. IMHO, the vast majority of companies patched up their old systems for year 2K, and that that it really has little to do with decisions regarding ERP.
I hope my entry into PSFT doesn't put a hex on the stock :-)

I'm not sure that the call will necessarily be positive.

The stock action in ERP companies has been terrible, and stocks have an uncanny way of predicting what's going on. There could be some softness in the ERP marketplace - this is conceivable given Y2K and Michelle Harris' suggestion that there are Peoplesoft consultants "on the beach" and that the ERP marketplace is slowing.

I think it could be negative because PSFT almost needs to explain why their stock has completely nose-dived. And if they are seeing unanticipated softness in the marketplace, that is material.

Not rooting for a negative call, I just think it could be.

Mel .. Me thinks thou dost fret to a great excess.

AMENDMENT .. I have now finished reading all of today's messages and I think you have come around. Obviously tomorrow's telecon is intended to be nothing but positive or re-affirming if you prefer.

PS Just a complaint .. why can't we have a 3 or 5 message posting day when I am on vacation? It is taking ages to wade through all these every night.
