Anyone...is Ancor's position in the investment community so suspect, that we can't even sustained a two day growth...one day after they announce their first contract (with attached value) in almost 18 months? Not a very resounding vote of confidence.

George,

Thank you for responding to my DWDM query. I agree DWDM will be in the WAN. My question is really more specific to its applicability in the FC-0 layer. My (ill-informed) impression is that DWDM, in some implementation, could comprise a new physical layer for FC. Its benefit would be to pump more bits down the fiber each second.

One possible use would be in a multi-staged fabric. If the switches were linked with fatter pipes, fabric capacity would be increased without sacrificing available I/O ports.

Another possible benefit would be to extend the distance between switches by using fiber amplifiers. It seems that fabrics could extend state-wide if not nation-wide. I'm sure I'm only overlooking a thousand key issues, including cost, probably. Nonetheless, it seems to me that it should have a place in future generation FC fabrics.

Greg

>>>I think you will also see more experimentation with all optical
switching in the LAN, but implementation is a long way off and they
(like FC) also have to battle the ATM/SONET market share.<<<

George-If you follow ATM a good place to check out is Fujitsu Network
Communications. They deliver ATM/Sonet solutions and by the look of their facilities they expect their business to increase rapidly.
