I don't think CIEN will be a stand-alone co., because 2 weeks from today TLAB will re-work the exchange ratio. and 3 weeks from now, a person K will make a bit to buy CIEN.
It seems that people're already trading CIEN like they've reached Z+1.

pass pass: Your arguments are based on faulty premises:

DWDM then will be a commodity.

DWDM is not a commodity. A commodity is a product that has a perfect substitute. DWDM technology never has and never will have a perfect substitute because the technology is moving forward too fast. It's like saying semiconductors can be commoditized. No way.

To prevent that, CIEN should work closely with CSCO and ASND to establish a new protocol.

Ciena already is working with CSCO closely to control standards. They started a forum that includes all the major telcos and equipment mfrs--except for LU.

YOu can only divide the wavelength by a finite number (16,40,80,96,..X,Y,Z). What will you do when you reach Z?

Bandwidth can be divided an infinite number of times--in fact scientists believe that it will double every year for the next 10 years (and that still won't keep up with the growth of the Internet). And as long as Ciena stays at the forefront of that development, they remain a strong buy, IMO.
