Thread: Briefing.com gloomy on PC sales. I'm a bit surprised by this opinion. Victor

BRIEFING.COM
Computer Systems & Peripherals
Brief: PC stocks were among the best performers in Wednesday's session as investors used recent weakness to step back in on the long-side... However, Briefing remains suspect of the group's near- to intermediate-term prospects as global economic slowdown is likely to result in weaker than expected holiday demand... More of an issue initially for companies selling to consumers such as Hewlett-Packard (HWP), Compaq (CPQ) and Gateway (GTW)... Dell (DELL) with its heavy emphasis on corporate business should weather storm in better shape, but slowing corporate profits doesn't bode well for them either as capital spending budgets in CY1999 could get cut sharply if troubles continue to mount... Obviously weaker than expected demand for PCs would prolong slump in disk drive, chip and chip equipment industries.
