Gary, OT-- I have raised this issue before- that the service may be more important in the future than the appliance- but the thread regards this as an irrelevant issue because so much of Dell's business is corporate, governmental, and involves the higher computational and other skills of the PC. At least that's what I inferred.

What do you know about a company called C-Phone. (internet over the TV)
I bought some Cisco yesterday. Did you ever buy any Dell? Where can I find out the dope on John Chambers and his views of the future?

<<Soon every home will have a number of IP based devices with computing capbility built into them. These networked devices include TV's, Telephones, security systems, telemetry systems, and much more. PC's will be relegated to true computing needs...not web access>>

could be. then again different software functions serving these needs would also be plausible for the pc. wasn't it Marsh McCluen who predicted we'd migrate from several communication devices acting independently and continuously to to one main device serving multiple functions acting interdependently and congruently? i.e., a pc will automatically control the energy use of our house relative to our initial input when we're active and on and on? human communication tends toward a single order even though the world in general tends toward entropy; something like that.

even though Mcluen made his predictions in the 60s as a professor of communication, thus far nearly all his predicitons have uncannily come to pass.
