Most comparisons about financial history aren't exactly accurate.

But throughout history the pattern is the same and eventually the speculative bubble burst. That happened with Tulips in Holland and with stocks and real estate in Japan.

A lack of clear monetary and fiscal policy leadership is what tanked the Japanese markets. But it was the bubble that caused or at least precipitated the drop in Japanese asset values.
