Re: World class Loral bird design vs I* Jeff you know the main bus for the I* birds is built by Lockheed Martin, where both lockheed and martin marietta where no newbies to satellite design (in fact some would say they are better than loral). The cause of several of the failing I* birds was traced down to some faulty allied signal momentum wheels. The bird design was good, just that they picked a new supplier of wheels for the I* birds. Loral is prone to the same problems. I would be suprised if all the G* birds work perfectly. During the Leonids showers, most birds will be positioned such that the dishes will face away from the meteors and the solar panels will be tilted horizontal to them to reduce the chance of any damage.
