Tenchusatsu,

<< If they can fill in the gaps that Intel (and perhaps AMD) leave, they can find a nice small little fortune. >>

How are smaller companies than AMD and Cyrix going to be able to make a "fortune" if the larger AMD and Cyrix CANT MAKE ANY MONEY NOW?

I still think AMD is printing dollar bills and selling them for 90 cents. XXX won't be able to bring up the ol' fab and start making dents with any sort of ease here...

all imho

Tenchatsu, Re: "If you thought that Intel marketing execs
were nervous, just think about how little sleep AMD's marketing execs must get!"

On the contrary. I see no accountability with regard to Jerry Sanders and AMD, looking at it from an operations (P&L), or stock price basis. Even IBM canned their top guy, Akers, when it became clear they needed new blood. Sanders probably sleeps as well as Clinton. Uh-oh, leave that one alone!

Tony

Tenschsatsu - Re: " I wouldn't count out the niche players. If they can fill in the gaps that Intel (and perhaps AMD) leave, they can find a nice small little fortune. "

Who is counting them out ? They are COUNTING THEMSELVES OUT !

Cyrix is near dead in the water - uncompetitive in performance and their low ball pricing isn't attracting any significant customers.

As for IDT - yes, they have a low power CPU - but low performance - and once again, they have attracted no significant customers.

Both NSM and IDT are piling up significant losses - as is AMD. You cannot discount this fact - these losses are going to result in fewer resources available to them to continue to "wage war" with Intel.

NSM and IDT have essentially eliminated themselves.

As for Rise - huh?

And just what are they going to bring to the table that is any better than NSM and IDT and AMD.

Perhaps RISE will use IBM for a foundry - a guaranteed ticket to vast fortunes - aka - Cyrix !
