Mr. GreenJeans: Your point regarding the values which are manifesting in this market of late and those values yet to appear are well taken. That being said, my post was not de- signed to refute the buying opportunities which may or may be presenting themselves now or in the future. Nor was it written to demean, in any way, the stellar record of this remarkable man called Bob Brinker. That record speaks proudly and loudly for itself. Instead, my comments were meant to convey the sense of loss and aimlessness which generally accompanies the fall from grace of any leader, in this case, our commander. To be sure, Brinker has provided no refuge in this storm, and this assuredly aggrieves many of us. As the originator of this Brinker thread, I am not immune from a compelling sense of sadness, if not despair, by this turn of events. However, it can not be ignored that Brin- ker's determined flaying of Ralph Acampora and other analysts and a supremely ill-timed "buying opportunity" at DJIA 8650 and S&P 500 1090 (announced during Money Talk) has borne nothing but bitter fruit. It is likely more than few of us now better understand that the market invariably humbles the best of men, that even Brinker is not immune from the law of averages, and that his model may be in need of serious re-tooling. To wax philosophical, many of us may also stand awed, chastened, and sobered as the millennial wisdom scribed in the Book of Proverbs again re-asserts itself in the arena of human affairs, to wit, "Pride goeth before de- struction, and a haughty spirit before a fall." [Proverbs (XVI, 18)] I can assure you that the present writer has purchased this nugget of golden wisdom from the Good Book at a dear price. In any case, there may, in future, be those who will listen to "MoneyTalk" with a more critical ear and read "Marketimer" with a more discerning eye than heretofore. There are other StarShip travelers who will doubtless be more inclined to de- pend upon their own faculties, instincts, and acuity of mind in charting their own course through these difficult times.
