Steve,

Had the price point for PCs stayed at $2,000, Intel would probably be making in excess of 2 billion profit per quarter. The sub-$1000 PC has taken it's toll on Intel.

The question for Intel is- can they dominate this low "dollar margin" sector?

Steve, I agree. Don't forget the inventory correction. It started with too much end-product in the channel, then OEMs reduced component inventory (affecting Intel among others), and now its affecting equipment manufacturers (e.g. AMAT). It has clearly worked its way down the value-chain. Of course, one of the reasons for the inventory correction in the 1st place was a slow-down in demand like you said.
