Scumbria,

<Had the price point for PCs stayed at $2,000, Intel would probably be making in excess of 2 billion profit per quarter. The sub-$1000 PC has taken it's toll on Intel>

Is it not possible that the price would have stayed at $2,000, had their not been a Japanese recession, Asian crisis and general semiconductor slowdown?

SK

Scumbria - Re: "The question for Intel is- can they dominate this low "dollar margin" sector? "

One thing is FOR CERTAIN -

NSM/CYRIX CAN'T DOMINATE IT - they have proven this.

You are right about this point. By Intel's own admission, they grossly underestimated the popularity of the sub $1000 PC. This decision has hurt their earnings.
