Paul - Re: " By Intel's own admission, they grossly
underestimated the popularity of the sub $1000 PC. This decision has hurt their earnings. "

How can you reach this conclusion?

because AMD and Cyrix leaped at the opportunity to "service" the sub $1000 market and thereby generate incredible profits?

WRONG !

Both these companies are LOSING MONEY - 4 straight quarters and a fifth on its way - due to CONCENTRATING on the sub $1000 PC market.

Intel may have reacted SLOWLY to the sub $1000 PC stuff, but that "slowness" may have PROTECTED their profits from further decline.

Since AMD and Cyrix lost money BIG TIME in the sub $1000 market, Intel's deliberate approach to it, while still maintaining $1.2 Billion in quarterly profits, may be interpreted as a masterful managerial tour-de-force.

Think about it.
