Hi bb,

There's a fairly sharp guy in the globe today who officialy called it a bear 2 weeks ago. Here's a bit of what he now says.

"" After the carnage, people began asking me, "Was the 512-point plunge on the dow the selling climax that ended this market pullback?"

NO. This is no mere correction. This is the real thing, and the next bull cannot be born until the fundamental problem of accelerating global deflation is addressed. Right now, no G7 central banker and no G7 government will admit that deflation is the most serious threat to the global economy. They all repeat the mantrathat their task is to prevent any uptick in inflation.

What good reading this Saturday, between Greenspan's and Rubin's speech and Ascani's commentary.

It has been an excruciating 3 days pondering the "no impact to US economy" immunity theory (total pure hogwash, imo). Perhaps it was used to alleviate the condition, i.e. stabilizing words. The best scenario is for a large trading range between 7500 and 8300 for the next 3 to 5 weeks, just to the FRB meeting. That should be plenty volatility to allow cheering activities in both bulls and bears camps. Another down move between mid to late October. Another scenario is another fall in 2 more weeks.

My outlook for last 3 months of 1998 and 1999 is negative.
