I've been away skiing for a while. Here's an article that's a few days old about how Oracle 8i (the internet version of Oracle 8) will have some object-oriented features for managing html data.

crn.com

The more Oracle needs to use OO features to support e-commerce, the more it shows that RDBMS is just not the right platform to use in the first place.

Edward...

>>I'm really surprised MSFT hasn't acquired ODIS<<

I am too and I do hope they DO NOT buy ODIS! My guess is that MSFT or anyone else for that matter would pay somewhere between 2-3 times current stock price. Lets call that 15. From that point on, ODIS share holders will have to make gains on whomever buys ODIS. Lets say that MSFT buys ODIS at 15 and MSFT using round numbers is at 90. If you have 600 shares of ODIS you will then get 100 shares of MSFT.

Now my bet is that ODIS will gain faster on a % basis than MSFT over the next 5-10 years. Assuming that MSFT gains at 30%/yr and ODIS gains at 50%/yr. At that rate in 7 years, the ODIS value would be $61,200 and the 100 shares of MSFT would be worth 56,000.

I know that I have a lot of assumptions built in and who knows, MSFT may grow at 50% for the next 7 years and ODIS may be out of business in 7 years. MSFT or someone else might pay 3-4 times current price. Who the heck knows. If someone other than MSFT buys ODIS, then what would their rate of growth be??? I do agree however that ODIS and MSFT would be a great fit and wipe out any future competition! Whoops...DOJ!!!

IMO however, I feel that ODIS can make it on there own and unless a buyer comes in with a price that just cannot be refused, I say stay the course.

In any event, It sure is a nice feeling!!!<G>
